Are you a professional bus, coach or lorry driver? Or are you in charge of a fleet of professional drivers? The Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) is the qualification you need to ensure the high standards of driving necessary for this line of work are maintained.
If you want to drive a goods vehicle over 3.5 tonnes or a passenger vehicle with more than eight seats professionally you need a Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence).
If you passed your car test before January 1997 then you have acquired rights to the Initial Driver CPC qualification. But you are required to undertake 35hrs Approved Driver CPC training every five years to maintain your qualification. New LGV or PCV drivers need to successfully complete Modules 2 & 4 with DVSA and then undertake 35hrs Approved Driver CPC training every five years to maintain their qualification.
Do I need further CPC Driver Training I If you attained your Driver CPC card though grandfather’s rights by just doing 35 hours of periodic training and not the initial qualification (Module 2 and 4 tests) then you will need to renew your Driver CPC card by completing 35 hours of periodic training before 9th September 2018. If you have acquired rights for truck, then your deadline will be 9th September 2019.
